Proactiv Refining Mask - Review, Photos, Swatches

What could instantly ruin a perfect outfit for me?
A huge zit on my face that appeared out of nowhere, at the most inconvenient time.

I know a lot of you would say that it's easy to cover up acne with makeup, but I'm a firm believer of actually treating the problem instead of covering it up (which could make it worse). So how do I avoid or at least minimize this awful surprise especially on date nights? Aside from a strict skincare regimen that I follow religiously, I also apply this mask the night before any special events.

Proactiv Refining Mask deeply cleanses and helps minimize pores. It's a sulfur acne treatment that will help in drying up those gross pimples and red bumps, as quickly as overnight.

This is a rinse-off mask that perfectly compliments the Proactiv 3-step Combination Therapy System, by reducing redness and inflamation associated with acne. It comes free with every purchase of Proactiv 30-day or 60-day kit.

This awesome mask has a powerful concentration (6%) of antibacterial sulfur, a proven acne-fighting ingredient. It's vitamin-enriched formula helps give you a brighter, younger looking complexion. It refines texture and tone of skin and pores appear smaller.

It also contains Kaolin clay which helps absorb excess oil. It has Vitamin E, a potent antioxidant that protects skin from free radicals and soothes and nourishes the skin. It has Vitamin F Complex to help retain skin moisture. The tea tree oil in this mask provides antiseptic and cleansing properties, while the geranium and lemongrass extracts provide overall skin conditioning.

How does it work with the Proactiv Combination Therapy?

The advanced microcrystal benzoyl peroxide in the Proactiv® 3-Step System kill acne-causing bacteria while the glycolic acid and other exfoliants reduce excess oils and dead skin cells. The Proactiv Refining Mask deals with the inflammation where it reaches deep into pores to help reduce the redness and the swelling associated with a breakout. It clears away the small impurities that are still sticking on the skin pores after doing the three steps. The mask also aids in improving the smoothness of the skin continuously using it will make the skin look suppler and reduce the appearance of the pores.

How to use the Proactiv Solution Refining Mask?

It is very easy to integrate the Refining Mask in the Proactiv® 3-Step System. First, cleanse face with Renewing Cleanser. Apply Refining Mask to dampened skin. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with water; follow with the Revitalizing Toner and Repairing Treatment.

For those starting out with their Proactiv treatment, or any time you need extra control (like before an important event, or during times of increased breakouts), try using the Refining Mask nightly for a week, leaving it on for only 10 minutes and rinsing immediately with warm water. For maintaining acne-free and radiant skin, use the Refining Mask with your 3-Step System 2-3 times per week. You can also use it as your Step 4 after the Proactiv Repairing Treatment, as a leave-on spot treatment to the problem pimple overnight. You will see a big difference the following morning.

How often should I use Proactiv Refining Mask as rinse-off mask?

Proactiv Refining Mask is recommended to be incorporated with the Proactiv® 3-Step System — every day for the first week of use, and then 3 times a week for maintenance. After Step 1, apply the Refining Mask on the whole face and leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Excessive usage such as leaving it on for more than 10 minutes is not recommended as some people may experience hypersensitivity to sulfur.

What are the advantages the Proactiv Solution Refining Mask as a rinse-off mask?

With consistent use of the mask after the Renewing Cleanser, you should see a progressive improvement in your acne and a reduction in facial redness due to the antibacterial properties of the sulfur, the drying action of the kaolin clay, and the skin - soothing formula.

The sulfur in the Refining Mask is an important ingredient in Proactiv® Combination Therapy® because it helps reduce the tender redness associated with a breakout. Sulfur is also a mild, natural antibacterial and a keratolyic agent which helps reduce acne bacteria and unblock clogged pores. The white kaolin clay also present in the Refining Mask, helps absorb excess oils, improves the look of pores and creates a smoother, more matte and calmer complexion.

Proactiv Refining Mask

I was a little adamant upon using it because I rarely find a mask formulated for acne that works, or at least won't dry the living out of my skin. I followed the directions and used it after cleansing my face and before applying toner and moisturizer. I did this for one week straight, and damn my pimples really dried out. I usually get them on the side of my face and jawline, probably due to my sleeping position and mannerisms.

On severe cases, like cystic acne, I apply it after my skin regimen. I leave it on overnight to speed up the process of drying out and treating my acne. I wouldn't recommend that trick though to those with sensitive skin because that might dry out your skin too much.

The Proactiv Refining Mask is scientifically proven and has been used by millions of customers worldwide, including athletes, superstars, and ordinary people. Its ingredients are carefully developed to complement the Proactiv 3-step system

It is convenient and easy to use. It can be easily applied and rinsed off with water while other masks can be sticky during application, can be time-consuming and can be very messy. It also effectively reaches all parts of the skin and penetrates pores unlike traditional facial sheets.

What's more awesome about it? It comes FREE with any Proactiv 30-day or 60-day kit, and one tube can last for a month. It's been 3 weeks since I used it and I haven't used half of it! You can use it as your regular mask or as your emergency blemish treatment. ;)

PROS: dries out my pimples as quickly as overnight, easy to use, easy to tote around, can be used as a regular mask or blemish treatment, can be used as quickly as 10 minutes or overnight (depending on your skin and acne type), easy to wash, smells like the ones used in luxurious spas, locally available, comes FREE with any purchase of Proactiv 30-day or 60-day kit

CONS: a little expensive

VERDICT:

 I will definitely repurchase!

Physiogel Hypoallergenic For Sensitive Skin | Beauty Experts Circle Event

I really love my Physiogel Intensive Cream, so when I got invited to their "Beauty Experts Circle" event, I was more than happy to attend. :)

Meeting fellow beauty bloggers is such a delight! I saw Carizza Chua, Sabs Hernandez, Donnarence Masilunan, Michelle Martinez and other gorgeous beauty bloggers. But my seatmate Gen-zel Habab really made the experience soo much fun! :)

Like what I've told you before, I'm from a family with sensitive skin (excluding lucky old me). My sister has a mild skin asthma, and growing up as roommates, I saw her struggle with it first-hand, so I know how a product can react on sensitive skin. Thank God there's Phyisogel!

Having dry, sensitive skin is a common problem. In fact, one in three or 35 percent of women have dry skin but don’t realize that they do.  Women can easily get dry skin from exposure to the environment. But even if they’re not under harsh weather conditions, other factors such as stress, air conditioning, smoking, bathing in hot water and using soap can contribute to destroying the natural moisture balance of the skin, making it rougher and more sensitive. Skin may also have a dehydrated or shrunken appearance while simultaneously feeling tight and itchy.

Experts know that dry, sensitive skin requires special care and attention. Moisture is more prone to escape and evaporate, leading to dry, dehydrated skin. Most often than not, experts recommend Physiogel moisturizers from Stiefel, a GSK company

Physiogel is formulated with the revolutionary Derma Membrane Structure (DMS) Technology, which resembles the natural building blocks of the skin to effectively help repair the skin barrier and help prevent moisture loss.

Conventional moisturizers may only mask skin dryness to give skin transitory moisture; moisture that can be washed off by rinsing or washing. Physiogel, however, moisturizes by mimicking the natural lipid composition of the skin and keeps it hydrated for up to three days, even with washing or bathing.

During the event, some ladies from Physiogel tested our skin's moisture level. Fortunately for me, because I'm a Physiogel user, mine came out okay. Here is Gen-zel having her skin tested. :)

Physiogel works even as a part of your makeup routine!

So women who love makeup but have sensitive skin can worry no more. But, of course, they should stay away from cosmetics that can cause irritation, inflammation and other allergic reactions. Be sure to check that the label states specifically that the product is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and fragrance-free.

For women with extra-sensitive skin, the trend is to find a foundation that has few chemicals and preservatives in them, especially those with an SPF between 15 to 30 for added skin protection. Foundations that are silicone-based and in powder form are also best for sensitive skin, because they don’t irritate skin and don’t clog pores.

Delicate skin that tends to turn red, flaky or stings can get glowing when mineral makeup is used. Just be sure it’s free from fragrances and dyes. It’s recommended to use a powder brush then switch to a concealer brush for proper blending.

Even sensitive skin can be rosy. When choosing a blush, pick one that is closest to your natural skin tone. Experts agree that a powder blush is the easiest to use and that it stays on the skin the longest. Always keep in mind, though, to use a brush that won’t cause any irritation.

Here’s a beauty insider’s tip: It’s great to use Physiogel Cleanser as a makeup remover for women with sensitive skin. It can be used with or without water, just wipe off with tissue. I also know some girls who use the cream as their makeup base to prep their skin before applying makeup!

Physiogel is OK for babies, too!

My 1-year-old nephew inherited the family's sensitive skin, so all the products we apply on him are hypoallergenic only. Like me, his Mom always totes a tube of Physiogel cream with her just in case my nephew needs it.

Physiogel is the No. 1 dermatologist-prescribed moisturizer according to Philippine Medical Data Index (PMDI MAT 2012) and is available in leading drugstores and supermarkets nationwide. It is also available in handy 10ml sachets. Ask your dermatologist and pediatrician about Physiogel.
This is the Physiogel advantage: Healthy, moisturized skin through repairing. With Physiogel, you can maintain beautiful, smooth, supple, and soft skin this season and beyond.

Shiseido Medicated Baby Powder (Pressed) - Review, Photos, Swatches

I've had my fair share of disappointing experiences when it comes to products that claim they can work for my oily/combination skin. I've been on the lookout for the finishing powder that will really mattify my skin for at least a couple of hours. The overhyped Ben Nye did not really cut it for me, unfortunately. So upon research and my obsession with Japanese skincare and makeup products, I stumbled upon this.

Shiseido Medicated Baby Powder (pressed) is my current favorite finishing powder, and the best one I've used so far. It's gentle enough even for those with sensitive skin since it's meant for babies, and has really good oil control properties.

The texture is not perfectly fine unlike Ben Nye's, but it's not coarse either. It's texture and scent (mild, almost unnoticeable) reminds me of the baby powder I used back in high school.

The packaging is a little bulky, but I really don't mind since it just means it has a lot of product in it (50g). It comes with a puff that actually works! I prefer using the puff to pat the product on my face. It's been working fine for me, but if you prefer a powder brush, that would be okay.

The downside? It may leave a white cast on your face when you've put too much, or when you're on the morena side. Be careful not to apply too much, or just use a big powder brush to apply.

when blended between my fingers

PROS: good oil control properties, kept my face matte for a good couple of hours (running errands indoors and outdoors), contains a lot of product, did not irritate my skin, doesn't have a distinct scent, reasonably priced

CONS: a little bulky to tote around, doesn't have a mirror, may leave a white cast (just blend it well), not locally available

 I will definitely repurchase!

Favorite Lip Balms: Carmex, Snoe Beso Balm and EOS Lemon Drop

Calling all my fellow lipstick addicts! What is your favorite lip balm?

I've tried a lot of lip balms. I've probably tried most of what's available in the market since a lipstick addict like me shouldn't be caught without this baby in our makeup kit.

I came up with these 3 because they are the ones I always use and have repurchased. I also realized I'm not a fan of balms in a jar/tub packaging because I don't like dipping my fingers on the actual product. I also prefer translucent ones so it won't interfere with my lipstick shade.

Anyway, here are my top picks: Carmex, Snoe Beso Balm and EOS.

Carmex

Snoe Beso Balm

EOS

I love them because they really prevent and heal chapped lips. They don't have a tint and 2 of them (latter 2) taste pretty good. Snoe and EOS is a bit expensive for a lip balm, but they go a long way for me so I really don't mind the price. :)

Where To Buy:

Carmex - PHP109, Watson's and leading department stores
Snoe Beso Balm - PHP150, Landmark, Cinderella (SM Megamall), SM North
EOS - PHP200, online
