MAC Riri Woo Lipstick - Review, Photos, Swatches

The MAC and Rihanna Collaboration has been the buzz ever since the word came out. Rihanna is known for her bold and fierce fashion sense and for her always controversial music videos and love life; which is why I think it's only appropriate that she collaborated with the equally bold and fierce brand who doesn't really give a shit if something's too weird or out of norm.

MAC Riri Woo was inspired by the cult-favorite (including Rihanna) Ruby Woo. This shade was immediately sold out in 3 hours online, even when MAC was a lot more strict with hoarders (1 lipstick per credit card). To be honest, I was so bummed when I learned from other bloggers and Youtubers that they're practically the same. They basically just changed the name (WTF, MAC?).

But.. Are they? Let's see.

MAC Riri Woo is a bright, pinup girl type of red with blue undertones. It's in retro matte finish, which is usually extremely drying when applied and worn (just like Ruby Woo and Smoked Purple). Others claim Riri Woo and Ruby Woo are the same; I'm a little partial on that statement.

Upon application, Riri Woo is a touch deeper and has stronger blue undertones. Of course, you really can't tell the difference without comparing them side by side and stare at them meticulously. The swatch comparisons below don't do justice on how different they are. Riri Woo is definitely the fiercer sister of Ruby Woo.

Just like the usual matte lipstick, this stayed on my lips for hours, and left a pretty red stain after a good lunch. It's buildable to be as opaque as you want it. It's also a little more forgiving than Ruby Woo's and Smoked Purple's drying formula.

MAC Riri Woo Lipstick

WITH FLASH Left-Right: Ruby Woo, Riri Woo (swiped 3x each)
WITHOUT FLASH Left-Right: Ruby Woo, Riri Woo (swiped 3x each)

PROS: a classic shade that will never go out of style, will compliment most skin tones, long wearing, opaque, matte formula

CONS: easy to dupe (Ruby Woo is extremely close), retro matte (the drying type) formula, hard to find, pricey

VERDICT:

  I will definitely repurchase!

Where To Buy:
MAC Riri Woo lipstick (and the rest of MAC x Rihanna Collection) will be available this June
